I started off with a VHS and got about half way, then was at a store and bought the DVD of "The Music Man" and finished it off watching that.
So I went from full screen to a wide black barred letterbox version.
It had a happy ending, of course, which would be no surprise. The surprise for me was that Prof. Hill didn't have to make more of an effort to actually get the band to play. Not that they played well. But the idea was that the audience heard them playing well. Because of civic pride.
It's a feel good movie, except for me I wished he would turn honest sooner.
